Reflective microbeads for construction
Reflective microbeads are supplied in a solid form in many sizes, in white or grey. They serve the same purpose as reflective paints and varnishes; however, the difference is the method of application.
Pros and cons of using reflective microbeads
Unlike reflective paints and varnishes, microbeads should be applied on their own onto a wet paint layer, either by pushing them under pressure into paint or by simply sprinkling them on the surface.
An advantage of this solution is the fact that the majority of beads remian on the surface of previously applied paint, which allows them to fulfill their task of fully reflecting light because the pigments from the paint do not cover them in any way. However, the disadvantage is poor rub resistance and the risk of beads’ fallout from the paint layer because some of the microbeads are not protected by the binder of a paint or a varnish.
Applications of reflective microbeads
Different fractions (sizes) of microbeads and their different colours allow to obtain different light reflecting effects. Smaller beads are more opaque, while the bigger ones shine or reflect light better. In order to achieve the best effect, it is recommended to try applications of various beads.
Reflective microbeads can be used in many places for horizontal markings. They are not recommended for vertical markings due to the fact that the beads are applied onto a paint surface, where – in case of vertical markings – they may crumble off and fall out from the paint surface. They can be used similarly to reflective paints – in markings of roads, car parks, production halls, warehouses, barriers, horizontal road signs, construction machinery, temporary fencing installations, etc.
