Yellow fluorescent paints for marking lanes and vertical signs on roads and squares
The safety of drivers and pedestrians is a priority in road design and marking. Both horizontal and vertical yellow signs on the road primarily serve a warning and informational function. They are most commonly used during road maintenance works, so they must be highly visible and catch the attention of both drivers and pedestrians. How do yellow fluorescent paints work? In what areas of road traffic are they applied? What should distinguish high-quality special paint?
How do fluorescent paints work?
Fluorescent paints operate based on the principle of reflecting light beams. This can occur in two ways. During the day, the coating transforms the UV light present in sunlight into vibrant light, rendering UV radiation visible to the human eye. This real-time fluorescence phenomenon results in bright and distinct neon colors. Special paints allow the surface to stand out prominently against the background and immediately catch the eye. At night, when sunlight is greatly reduced, even a small amount of light suffices to make the surface emit a fluorescent glow.
Yellow fluorescent paints on roads and squares
Due to their fluorescent properties, yellow paint is often used on roads and squares. It is primarily applied to signs and vertical warning boards. In addition, the fluorescent coating is used for painting horizontal signs – continuous and dashed lines, as well as arrows or inscriptions. It is used during renovations or reconstruction of entire road sections. Yellow signs are then more important than the traditional white markings and require drivers to exercise special caution. Fluorescent paints can be used to mark larger areas on the road or individual details that require additional emphasis.
Advantages of special paints on roads
The greatest advantage of yellow fluorescent paints is their visibility. The coating stands out prominently against the background, captures attention, and conveys important information regarding road conditions or changes in traffic regulations. Even at night, with limited illumination, when special microspheres are added to the paint, it effectively reflects the headlights’ light, ensuring maximum safety after dark.
The versatility of the special paint is also highly significant. The good adhesion of the coating allows it to be applied to various surfaces, such as concrete, cobblestone, asphalt, or metal. This makes it suitable for painting both vertical signs and applying it directly to the road.
High-quality yellow fluorescent paint is also durable. It’s worth noting that coatings used on signs or on the road are subjected to challenging, often extreme conditions, such as temperature fluctuations, humidity, precipitation, or sunlight exposure. Additionally, the pigment on the road’s surface comes into contact with moving vehicles, so it must be resistant to mechanical damage, abrasion, pressure, and the daily accumulation of contaminants.
